ISAPS is very proud to be entrusted with the organization of the successful fellowship project of DAFPRS under the direction of Dr. Jacques van der Meulen, who established this fellowship program and managed it with a great deal of passion. We are happy to have him as our ambassador and advisor in future.
Surgery of the face has evolved into a separate entity within the field of Plastic surgery. The plastic surgeon of today must be able to handle a wide range of technical challenges that can be encountered in this specific anatomical area.
It is however not enough to just be able to master the techniques. Only in combination with a sound judgement is it possible to achieve consistently predictable and high level results.
The Dutch Association for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was founded in order to channel the growing surgical interest in the face. The association aims to achieve and maintain the highest international standards in both theory and practice of facial plastic surgery. This is most fittingly demonstrated by the practical state of the art teaching, which is given within these fellowships. Since the start of the fellowships in 2007 the program has evolved into an international structure which meanwhile includes a wide range of experts, locations and countries.
The fellowship program is designed for a longer stay of three or six months.
The intention is to get an intensive training in a broader field of aesthetic surgery. This format is applicable for residents as part of their training and plastic surgery but also after board certification within the first three years. We are currently looking into possibilities of partial funding and financial aspects.
The structure of such a teaching program is entirely up to the expert and local host.
By posting or accepting a fellowship listed on the ISAPS website, you agree to the following:
The Fellowship and the Fellow hereby agree to jointly and severely release, defend and hold harmless the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) from any claims, whether first party or third party claims, related in any fashion to the Fellowship or to the Fellow, including but not limited to claims related to hiring, employment, compensation, supervision and/or malpractice.
The primary goal of the fellowship is to provide advanced clinical education in aesthetic surgery.
Both Fellowship Directors and Fellows prior to commencement of a fellowship mutually agree to the compliance with the goals of the fellowship and the “exchange” of training of the fellow by the Director with the fellow’s “service” in the appropriate sections indicated by the Director during the fellowship period.
The fellowship can offer hands-on experience in certain cases, with scrubbing in when possible. It needs not further explanation that this of course depends on factors like the case, the indication, your experience/skills and the rules set by medical authorities in each country. In either case though, we are convinced that the exposure to different aspects of plastic surgery of the face in this fellowship program will be unsurpassed and difficult to come by in any other setting.
We offer 52 fellowships of 3 months each. Some of these can be extended to a total of 6 months. Please visit our page on practical issues to find out more on who will be eligible for this extension. When selected, fellows are offered a location based on preference, availabilities and visa requirements. Currently the following units have committed to our program:
